About Us

The CNY Queer Directory was established as a personal passion project with the intention to exist as an informational hub for LGBTQIA+ people across Central New York.

It was created by Kiana L with help from numerous community members who help with event and directory submissions, moderation on social media (our community discord), accessibility auditing, and feedback along the way.

The ultimate goal is to have a three pronged approach to community building; 

1. Build a Comprehensive Directory of Established Spaces and Networks to Connect With. 

This includes services, businesses, institutions, community organizations and resources, recreational activities, and clubs. This is a living directory that will be updated in real-time, this may mean submissions being updated, or removed.

2. Compile a Community Calendar of Events.

In a time where safety is a primary concern, many turn to self-isolation or feel overwhelmed by finding events of interest. This aims to lower that barrier and give our community an approachable resource to refer to.

3. Prioritize and Value Accessibility, and Promote Inclusivity. 

We believe that queer people of all backgrounds (race, ethnicity, sex, gender, orientation, age, physical and cognitive ability) should have opportunities to participate in community events and experiences that are accessible. We seek out as much information as possible on physical accessibility (parking, venues, restrooms) and contextual accessibility (adult only, family friendly, substance free, etc.) for both directory and event submissions.

Someone posted my business or event(s), and I want to keep it private. What can I do to remove it?

• We understand safety and privacy is a top concern. Our directory and event calendar are community built. If at any time your event or business was shared and you would like all of the information removed, please email us immediately at cnyqueerdirectory@gmail.com and use the subject line "Remove my listing/event". If you need partial information removed or changed, follow the instructions given below for editing or updating.

Someone posted my business or event(s) and I want to edit or update the information. How can I do that?

• We are happy to update the information at any time, please reach out to us at cnyqueerdirectory@gmail.com as use the subject line "Update my listing/event" and provide a description of what information needs to be removed / updated / added.

Are you a private organization? Are you affiliated with a local business, or other companies / entities?

• CNY-QD is not affiliated or connected with any business, corporations, groups or entities. We do not have any informal or formal financial interests, relationships, or anything of the like. We do not take any donations or financial support. 

This is a project born from the hope of a safer and more engaged community and proudly maintains this resource. With that in mind, we reserve the right to decline submissions if the content is discriminatory or contains content that could cause harm to any members of our community.
